It is with a heavy heart I have to inform you that after May 2009, England as a separate nation will no longer exist.

The sixth and final EU treaty locking us to the union is due to be signed then, and it only requires two signatures, that of the Queen and Tony Blair.

All those at Westminster will then be redundant, our national anthem will be Ode to Joy and our 48 counties will go.

Only metric will be legal. Imperial pints or feet and inches will actually be illegal, not optional.

Most alarming of all, the EU will take full control of our police forces, Army, Navy, air force, all our nuclear weapons, North Sea oil fields and our gold reserves.

Our currency will become the euro. The pound goes, of course.

All political parties will also be illegal. It will be illegal to criticise the EU,— on pain of arrest and prison.

If we could persuade him, Tony Blair could always repeal the 1972 European Communities Act before we are locked into this monster forever.

After May 2009, the only way out will be to persuade all the other members to agree to our leaving, but as the second largest contributor of cash to the EU funds, this is hardly likely.

That only leaves war - so it would be nice if we could negotiate withdrawal long before that happens. It has been a very costly and expensive mistake, as we all know.

As I said, my heart is heavy, especially as France and Germany seem to have spectacularly achieved with the pen, what the Nazis failed to do with the bullet in two world wars.
